Check Out the Celebrities at the 2026 Frieze Los Angeles Art Fair

The 2026 edition of Frieze LA kicked off yesterday with an invitation-only VIP day. The art fair, held in a tent on the grounds of the Santa Monica Airport, features about 100 exhibitors from around the world and runs through Mar. 1. ARTnews attended the opening, where dealers excitedly reported a “frenzy” of sales.

But! Frieze LA is not just about the sales. This edition of Frieze (which also hosts fairs in New York, London, and Seoul) is an easy draw for celebrities, whether to the main fair, satellite fairs like the Felix Art Fair and the Butter Fine Art Fair (new on the scene and spotlighting local Black artists), or any number of fashionable parties.

Take a look at some of the celebrities—among them Heated Rivalry‘s François Arnaud, television host Bill Maher, and actor Orlando Bloom—who made their way around Los Angeles for Frieze Art Week.

The Storied Collection of Museu de Arte Moderna in Rio’s Founder Heads to Auction at Sotheby’s Paris

On April 10, Sotheby’s Paris will hold a sale dedicated to Niomar Moniz Sodré Bittencourt, a Brazilian businesswoman and journalist and the founder of Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro. Bittencourt, who died in 2003, was a prodigious collector of mid-century Modernist masterpieces, including works by Alberto Giacometti, Pablo Picasso, and Max Ernst, as well as leading Brazilian artists of the era including Almir Da Silva Mavignier and Franz Krajcberg. For those unfamiliar with Bittencourt, that may soon change. Later this year, according to Sotheby’s, a biography by author Ricardo Cota will be released. Titled A Mulher que Enfrentou o Brasil (The Woman Who Faced Brazil), the book will tell how Bittencourt both shaped Brazil’s modern art scene and courageously defied the Brazilian military dictatorship of the ’60s and ’70s. Ōtara housing development will create ‘elite enclave’

Highbrook Living Limited plans to build a housing development at the landmark power station site on Sparky Rd, near Ōtara. Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board (OPLB) chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia said the development could have significant environmental impacts, cause traffic congestion, and is far from schools and shops. “The proposed development site is cut off from the rest of Ōtara, bordered by the Tamaki River, State Highway 1, and the busy main arterial Highbrook route,” he says. “The board is concerned an elite enclave will be built, disconnected from the rest of Ōtara,” he said. “[There is] no physical connection to existing people of Ōtara to be neighbours with.
