New Reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani Series Tamariki Katu Kanga Launches at Te Maeva Nui NZ

A new reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani animated series, Tamariki Katu Kanga, will be unveiled at Te Maeva Nui this weekend, the world’s largest Cook Islands cultural festival. This is a new extension of Tākaro Tribe, created by a proud Kuki ‘Āirani cast and creative team.
With over 2,000 performers, Te Maeva Nui Aotearoa is set to be the biggest celebration of Cook Islands culture outside of the homeland.
Born from the universe of the beloved preschool series Tākaro Tribe, Tamariki Katu Kanga is a joyful, reo-first show designed to nurture early language learning through music, play, and cultural connection.
Produced by Pacific Media Network and Cinco Cine Film Productions, the series centres Cook Islands Māori language and worldview, with local creatives driving voice work, translation, and cultural guidance.
“I never imagined I would be getting paid to do work like this! A win for reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani and tamariki,” says director Susnation Seta.
Language consultant Tauraki Rongo ensured dialect diversity was carefully considered, with Rarotongan chosen as the primary language to make the series accessible for the widest audience of tamariki and their whānau. The first release includes three reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani episodes.
Following the success of Tākaro Tribe, Tamaiti Satalo (Samoa), and Tamaiki Va’inga (Tonga), this new project reflects an ongoing commitment to creating culturally grounded content for Moana Pacific tamariki across Aotearoa and beyond.
Tamariki Katu Kanga will be available after the premiere at pmn.co.nz and youtube.com/@takarotribe.
